True 50/50
Our virtual coin has no weight, no wobble and no thumb. It is exactly fair.
-
Streaks are normal

FAQ
Coin Flip: Heads or Tails?: your questions answered
Is this coin flip really 50/50?
Yes. Each flip uses one fresh bit from your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, so heads and tails each have exactly a 50% chance. Real coins are very slightly different: a 2023 study of 350,757 real tosses (published in the Journal of the American Statistical Association) found a coin lands on the side it started on about 50.8% of the time. A virtual flip has no such bias.
Why do I see long streaks of heads or tails?
Because real randomness is lumpy. In 20 fair flips there is about a 46% chance of a run of five or more identical results, and in 100 flips a run of seven or more happens more than half the time (about 54%). Streaks are a sign of randomness, not a sign of a broken coin.
Can I flip many coins at once?
Yes. Use the 10, 100 or 1,000 buttons (up to 10,000 coins) to see the totals, percentages and longest streak. With more flips the percentages move closer to 50%, which is the law of large numbers.
Can I use it to make a yes or no decision?
Yes. Switch the labels to Yes / No and flip. Tip: if you notice yourself hoping for a particular side while the coin is in the air, that tells you what you really wanted.
Does the animation decide the result?
No. The result is picked first by the random generator, then the coin animation is made to land on it. The animation is only for fun.
